Massage Therapy:
Swedish/Relaxation Massage
This type of massage is most popular and familiar to folks. It can be light, moderate or deep in pressure and always includes long, slow strokes and flowing movement. Often, Swedish is incorporated into more detailed massage such as injury/neuromuscular work. Massage in general helps to increase circulation, increase range of motion of joints, decrease pain caused from trigger points and tight muscles. Swedish is very relaxing for the nervous system and is beneficial for those clients under stress.
Neuromuscular/Injury Recovery Massage
This type of massage in much more detailed, often providing treatment to only one or two areas of the body at a time. Little lotion is used, depending on the client's skin, and can sometimes be uncomfortable. Pressure is closely monitored for client comfort. This work involves myofacial release, trigger point therapy, pin and stretch, and range of motion work. Sometimes this work is considered medical massage because your M.D. has provided a RX for massage therapy.
I am happy to provide a superbill for your insurance company if you have a RX for massage. Regular payment is rendered at the time of service and you are reimbursed by your insurance company.
You usually need to have a RX to get reimbursed, but not always. Check with your insurance carrier prior to sessions.
Prenatal Massage
This type of massage is for all trimesters, including high-risk and bed rest patients, as long as they have a doctor's consent. A woman can receive massage as soon as she finds out she is pregnant and continue until her due date. At 20 weeks, massage is performed in side lying and semi-reclined position only. Often the session is performed this way before 20 weeks. (Massage tables with cut out holes are not recommended, as they put too much pressure on uterine ligaments and can also hurt the client's low back.) Prenatal massage helps with circulation, range of motion issues, edema (swelling) due to pregnancy, leg cramps, and sore muscles. Massage also helps the new mother-to-be relax and connect with her changing body and growing baby.
*All high risk pregnancies must have a doctor's permission prior to appointment!! No exceptions.*
*I will make house calls for women on bed-rest with a doctor's approval.*
Postpartum Massage
This type of massage is safe the day a woman gives birth, unless otherwise advised by her doctor. Pressure varies from client to client and depends greatly on how long she has been in postpartum. This type of massage incorporates Swedish and neuromuscular massage. The massage is performed in regular position, but sometimes in sidelying if a woman has had a c-section recently.
A woman's soft tissue stays in postpartum for about 2 years per pregnancy!! Food for thought...
Hot Stone
Hot Stone Massage is a form of Swedish Massage with the incorporation of hot basalt stones. The stones are 130-140 degrees and help greatly in assisting in soft tissue relaxation. Due to the deep moist heat, only moderate pressure is required. It is highly relaxing and enjoyed by many massage lovers.
*Contraindicated for pregnancy, folks with heat sensitivities, severe heart and blood pressure issues, MS and
fibromyalgia flare-ups, and diabetics with severe circulation problems. Stones are not used on any area of the body that has numbness or partial feeling due to disease or nerve damage.*
